Our Story

So why would a married couple from the west end of Glasgow with a background in the construction industry decide it was a good idea to buy an old Rice Horsebox and turn it into a luxury bar? We are still trying to work that one out ourselves! But to cut a long story short we decided it was time to do something for us.
Many moons ago we met whilst working in a hotel together, giving us a grounding in the hospitability industry. We may have left this behind but we never forgot how to make a really good drink! And so we decided to dust off the measures and the cocktail shakers and get back out there. The Cantering Clydesdale Bar Co was born.
A few months on we had a fully functioning pop up bar, personal alcohol license and training under our belt. Its amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it!

BETTY THE BOX
Our horsebox, who is affectionately know as 'Betty', had a former life transporting horses to local shows. We saw she was for sale and thought she was rather pretty and rather big (hence the Clydesdale name) but would be even better as a beautifully converted bespoke bar. So we set to work - stripping her out ourselves, putting down a new floor, renewing her electrics and sealing her leaks. We then sent her away to the experts where she got a new interior metal frame for her bar and internal steel cladding. She also got a new paint job and we used recycled wood to create her bar. We are proud to call Betty ours and we know that when you see her you will love her too.

SCOTLAND THE BRAVE (and BEST)
We share a love for excellent quality wine, gin and beer. We love trying new things and expanding our knowledge of food and drink. We have attended wine and gin tastings and have even been on holidays to the wine regions of Spain, Portugal and Italy. We have seen a recent surge in food and drink festivals and have really embraced this.  Over the last few years we have also rediscovered our love for all things Scottish (Gin being one of these things, as have much of the population of Scotland!). We are keen to support local small businesses that are creating these amazing high quality Scottish products such as artisan gins and whiskies using only the finest Scottish ingredients.
We therefore promise to promote fine Scottish produce from small suppliers alongside high quality international favourites. We pride ourselves in our knowledge of our products and we can offer specialist advice passed on from our suppliers. This is why we are not just any mobile bar. We call ourselves 'Pop-up Potation Purveyors' because we are specialists in what we do.

ZERO WASTE SCOTLAND

We support the Scottish Government strategic objective for "A Greener Scotland: Improving Scotland's natural and built environment and the sustainable use and enjoyment of it”.  We realise that the mobile food and drink industry is one where waste is created unnecessarily. We would rather not add to this problem. We therefore pledge to offer reusable and recyclable drinks cups to our customers and we are also currently looking into biodegradable alternatives.
